Fatty-Chan Adventures – Part 01

Back in early February, Faye and I flew to Malaysia for a 3 week break. It had been 3 years since she’d been back there and the trip was planned to coincide with Chinese New Year. Lots of food to be had that time of year and what better place to indulge than K.L. :)

It was a fairly pleasant, yet long flight there. Around 18 hours including the stop over. The weather was hot and humid, which as Faye had warned me many times prior, usually results in a sticky feeling if you wander around outdoors too long.

I got to not only meet Faye’s brothers for the first time, but quite a few of her extended family as well. I felt very welcomed by everyone there. I can safely say that I thoroughly enjoyed the trip! Lots of food consumed. Hotel banquets, family feasts, not to mention the many, many CNY sweets and treats that were offered at every residence we visited. But I’m getting ahead of myself. The first part of our trip saw us visiting the gorgeous Pangkor Island. Enough blabber, though. Let the photos do the talking. Here’s the first round from the trip.

Weekend Thrills & Oranges

My recent visit to Cambridge differed this time round as instead of staying round Dock and Selina’s, I spent the trip at Emma and Pud’s house :) I actually got to sleep on a very comfy futon sofa bed.

The highlight of the trip I believe was when Emma and I decided to head out to Tesco’s to buy something for lunch. Our combined bills total was about £140, with only £15 of that being spent on food XD the rest went on games and DVD’s. We’d both picked up a copy of Thrillville, a game that featured work from Dock and Selina. It’s weird, as Emma said, going from buying books/comics created by friends, to now buying games created by friends! Now we wait to see who makes it to the movies first haha

I got myself the Xbox version, as you saw, and Emma picked up the Wii version. We’d spent the entire evening, from about 4:00pm till 11:30pm playing Thrillville non-stop! It’s THAT good. I can see why the Wii version is superior to the Xbox version, as some games, such as mini-golf and the entertainer’s dance game, take full advantage of the Wii-mote. Makes those kind of mini-games really fun to play.

Apart from just great mini-games (such as the wonderful Sparkle Quest 2 and Sparkle Island) the main theme of the game is to build and run theme-parks. You wouldn’t believe how much fun you can have creating crazy roller-coasters.

Tea & Warm Things

I wouldn’t mind going out for some tea and warm… things.

After just waking up and discussing breakfast with Selina, Dock suggested we go out because he fancied having something warm. This was how my Bank Holiday Monday started while in Cambridge. Overall it was a very chilled weekend. I mainly went down there to work on a small comic project with Selina. She’d asked me to come down that weekend so we can discuss backgrounds and styles, but also to finally get a look at the sketches so far.

It all seems to be coming together quite nicely. The real challenge will lay in the shading later, I think. I’d asked Selina if it’d be possible to do the shading in the entire comic using water colours instead of tones or markers. She agreed.

Oh Selina, what have you got yourself into.

She’s gonna hate me later, I’m sure XD
