I’ve been waiting for a proper live action glimpse of the Joker in the new Batman movie for like… a year! Finally, someone’s released a leaked version of the official ‘Batman: Dark Knight’ trailer. I like what I see. I like it a lot!

I’m still not 100% sure if they’re going to keep to the original story behind how the Joker came to be (Batman kinda, sorta, made him) or if they’re just going to skip that part of the story. It’s actually a very important piece of information, so let’s hope they keep that in.

As always, the cinematography looks amazing. The colours, lighting and general mood is very much following Batman Begins and that’s good news all round. I’m looking forward to a plethora of movies in 2008, such as Iron Man, Indiana Jones and Man in the Chair (2007 release in US, but 2008 in UK) to name just a few.

A nice quote from the ‘Man in the Chair’ trailer:

Flash Madden: Don’t worry about getting famous, get good at your job! If fame comes along, so be it.

And another:

Flash Madden: It means that much to you, hmm? To be the man in the chair?”
Cameron Kincaid: I guess…
Flash Madden: You guess?!? The man in the chair can’t ever be a guesser, he’s gotta make decisions, you know boom boom boom *clicks fingers to signify snap decisions*

Truer words have never been spoken.

ick Day

I took the day off today after waking up feeling like crap. Had a cold for the past week and thought I’d gotten through the worst of it, then POW! Couldn’t sleep a wink all night and all out of Night Nurse (zonks you right out, that stuff). Such a shame, as I had a really chilled out Saturday night and finally got to watch ‘Interview‘, which was a pretty good movie.

Called in sick and spent most of today in bed, and my evening was spent playing Team Fortress 2. When I first got the Orange Box, I tried it once and I was awful at it. But now, I’m awful at it and having fun :D The game’s cool. I found myself enjoying it a lot, mainly because the team work aspect of the game actually works.

Oh, Red Dwarf reruns are on!! I’ll catch an episode of that and then crash I think. Hope everyone’s had a pleasant Sunday :)

ow Does It Compare?

How does Tekkon Kinkreet the movie, compare to the Manga? Well, right from the get go, you see what is bound to be a cult classic piece of film. The first thing that struck me is how true to the original art-style the animated movie has been. It’s not only the story that makes ‘Black & White’ such a great series to read, but the fantastically quirky art plays a huge role.

I was very impressed to see a lot of originality in the directing of this story and yet they maintained a very familiar pace to the Manga. You can see what I mean from the comparison shots I’ve put together below.

The only differences I saw are purely editorial cuts and splices. Some items from the Manga I’m sure they had in the movie were probably removed to keep the pacing intact. Certainly a lot of scenes were shifted around, more than likely for the same reason. Such as the fight with Dusk & Dawn (which actually doesn’t take place until Book 2), was used as the introduction for the movie. While other small scenes from the book seem to have been cut out completely. It’s not a great loss, although I did at times question whether we fully understood Blacks psyche as much as we do from reading the books. You definitely get a greater understanding of both characters if you read the Manga.

Saying that though, I guess to people who’ve only seen the movie, the character development shown would suffice. On a sidenote, I watched this with the English Dubbing and I was very impressed with how wonderful the voice acting was. Especially the kid who does Whites voice. It’s about time Dubbing stopped being crap on anime XD

After a slow and agonisingly boring Sunday at work, I take comfort in knowing that I have Mini Caramel Waffles and Tekkonkinkreet on DVD to come home to. I finished reading Black & White a few days ago, thanks to Dock for lending me the books. I have permission to watch the movie now, yes? :D

I picked it up Saturday evening from Forbidden Planet, thanks to Nana who pointed it out to me as I totally overlooked it. I was browsing for the early volumes of Dragon Head in the manga section, but sadly, it wasn’t in stock.

Shortly after, we ventured on to see what movies were showing at the Vue cinema. Nothing new was out, but I was more than happy to watch anything a second time, so suggested we catch Stardust. It’s such a great movie and a rather apt way to end the evening. We both felt all warm and fuzzy inside haha Even on a second watch, that movie is still fantastic.

On a side note, people should not pick up artbooks that are half their body size. Wise words my friends, wise words. Now, on with the show!
