I just didn't get into it because I too only just found out Satoshi Kon didn't write the story :) The whole thing felt more like a showcase piece, than anything, so I just treated it that way. But when I found out that it was an actual <i>novel</i>? I was a little taken aback by how poor the story and character development was. I was planning to watch "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291350/combined"/ rel="nofollow">Millennium Actress</a>" next. I've heard a lot of mixed feelings concerning that one. Visually stunning, but thematically weak with unengaging characters.
